We had a very rainy day at Create Camps! A few campus walks were canceled, but we did have a window of sunshine for recess to run around and play outside.
MINI MAKERS (Kindergarten)
Today Mini’s explored ARCHITECTURE. They talked about different ways of looking, like BIRDS EYE VIEW and font-facing ELEVATIONS. Then, campers designed their own dream homes adding texture, patterns, shapes, and colors to existing floor plans.
EXPLORE: Art & Nature (1st-2nd)
Explorers looked at examples of embroidery by May Morris before embroidering on their beautiful water colored nature scenes. This afternoon, they learned weaving techniques on the hand-made stick looms, and campers finished decorating their paper mache cacti with bright, desert tones.
MOLD I: Ceramics & Clay (3rd-4th)
Mold camp learned all about tile and ceramic mosaic – cutting geometric shapes from construction paper and creating their own mosaic patterns, before moving on to tile layouts. Campers also created sand-casting with plaster of paris. Each disc was molded in the sand with beads and baubles added before pouring the plaster.
MOLD II: Ceramics & Clay (5th-6th)
Our older Molders performed their MUCH anticipated puppet show. They created ceramic characters and attached them to fabric bodies. The class wrote two original shows and performed on homemade stages for the other camps.
DESIGN: Spaces & Places (7th-9th, Teen Workshop)
Yesterday Designers visited the plaza vault and learned about ergonomics and 20th century furniture design. They talked about mid-century masters Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, and Florence Knoll. Thinking about the balance between form and function, campers designed their own chair prototypes first on paper, then using cardstock, and finally with woods and metals.
