Week 6, day 5 – Aug 4th!

Last day of week 6 and we loved spending time with your campers! Twenty one of our two-week ceramic campers will be heading home with LOTS of finished, fired artworks today.

MINI MAKERS (Kindergarten)

On day 5 Minis learned about EXPERIMENTAL and ABSTRACT artwork, looking at a painting by Paul Jenkins in our vault. They also completed color collages using WARM and COOL colors, and we talked about mixing PRIMARY colors to create SECONDARY colors. The morning ended with some Jackson Pollock-style splatter paintings in warm and cool shades.

MOLD: Ceramics & Clay (1st-2nd)

This morning Molders got ready to pack up their ceramic treasures by decorating cardboard boxes to carry artwork home, before creating their own group mosaic nature collage with birds, bees, and flowers. This afternoon campers

EXPLORE: Art & Nature (3rd-4th)

Explorers learned the art of Plein Air painting practiced by French impressionist including Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Studying light and shape, campers painted three mini versions of the same campus views.

DESIGN: Spaces & Places (5th-6th)

Design camp learned all about printmaking, prototyping, and designing their own stamps to print on canvas fabric. The looked at the colorful shapes and patterns in Alexander Girard’s textile designs, and pillows in the Miller House conversation pit. After the prints dried, Designers stuffed and sewed their custom fabrics into pillows!

MOLD: Ceramics & Clay (7th-9th, teen workshop)

Teen ceramics finished painting their air-dry trophies and figurines, setting the stage for their Michigan found animals, and are taking home TONS of ceramics projects – pins, necklaces, bracelets, figurines, treasure boxes, coil pots, letter banners, and MAN, a whole lot more. We’ve lost count!
